Portfolio
Optical Symphony
A Calgarian photographer was getting frustrated on having to deal with coding every time he needed to update his portfolio site. Moreover, his photo galleries were completely made in Flash. This caused a major inconvenience if he wanted to show clients his work through a mobile device. The photographer’s old site did not attract many people as a result.
The solution was to redesign his site from scratch, where all elements are fully optimized for viewing on a mobile device that did not support Flash. All the photo galleries used Javascript, with some PHP code that enabled him to simply upload his photos, and the site would take care of the rest. The site was also search-optimized to maximize internet traffic.
Amanda Rae Cross
Amanda is a professional performer and singer, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Her path in gaining recognition was a tough one, going through constant stress and struggling to keep her depression in check. Her strength came from her love of writing music, and is now part of a band called Metrobeat.
Her website was created based on the style of music she sings, and the mood she creates as she performs. The simple yet elegant setup brings out Amanda as an independent musician.
Note Us
In 2009, a class of Electronic Publishing students were assigned a major project to produce a one-off design magazine. The magazine was called Note Us, which covered everything related to design in people, places, and things. The magazine was launched on December 9th, 2009.
The website was created as the magazine’s online counterpart. It included all the original articles, and programmed to randomize the front page, so as to keep the sense of freshness and the illusion that the site updates constantly, even though no new material has been written since launch.
Yung's Harmony
Karen Yung’s professional photography service took off in the summer of 2008, and she needed an official website to help promote her services. She wanted the site to be elegant and interactive. The solution was to have the whole site run in Flash for a seamless experience for navigating through the main pages.
Think Responsibly
Think Responsibly is an educational website targeted at grade 3 to 5 students to be more aware of social responsibilities, and to contribute as a citizen. The old site was very difficult to navigate through, making it frustrating for children and teachers to take advantage of the resources. The site also used many assets that required proprietary software in order for it to run, which caused many security and reliability issues.
The new website design heavily reorganizaed the way information is presented, along with a much simpler interface for easy navigation. All video had been converted into Flash for easy streaming, and the overall filesize of each page had been optimized for quick loading.
